From Delivering Pizza to Running Two Agencies
Nazr Irfan spent years inside Fortune 500s. Verizon. The Federal Reserve Bank. Double six figures and a career that could have carried him all the way to retirement. A couple of years ago he was driving pizza delivery on the side while paying a team of engineers, designers, and project managers out of his own agency.
He lasted about six weeks before he decided his time was worth more inside the business. Today he runs two agencies and a team of about 30 people spread across the world. This conversation is about what happened in between, and about the one decision he made early that most owners make backwards.
What You'll Hear
The Layoffs Made the Decision For Him
He was earning well and moving up. Then he got laid off, more than once, with no clear answer about why. He talks about the exhaustion of competing in a market that did not seem to value what he brought, and the moment he decided he would rather live inside chaos he controlled.
Six Weeks Delivering Pizza
He had already burned the ships. He still had engineers, designers, and project managers depending on him for a paycheck. Listen to how he describes picking up delivery work, and to what he did not conclude from it.
He Built the Systems Before He Hired Anyone
Software, processes, reporting, client onboarding, training materials. All of it existed before there was anyone to use it. It cost him money on the front end. He explains why he considers that the reason the team runs without him now.
Nobody on His Team Can Hide
Every person on a project can see every other person's work. So can the client. He puts it plainly: accountability comes from transparency. If you are still chasing status updates, this is the part to sit with.
Why He Stopped Chasing Freedom
Location freedom. Financial freedom. Every owner names them. He argues they arrive on their own if you build long enough, which makes them a poor thing to aim at. What he aimed at instead changed what he built.
